Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan nominate the art of “gurama” patchwork to the UNESCO List

Currently, the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO is working jointly with the relevant department of Azerbaijan to add the patchwork art of “gurama” to the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This nomination was put forward at the initiative of the Azerbaijani side. This was reported on the pages of the “Neutral Turkmenistan” newspaper by Chinar Rustemova, Executive Secretary of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO.

In addition, the National Commission began negotiations with the Foundation of Turkic History and Culture of the Turkish Republic (TURKTAV) to establish cooperation in popularizing the cultural heritage of the Turkmen people in the Turkic world through expanding exhibition and library activities. It is also planned to organize a number of specific events within the framework of the regional project “Our Heritage” proposed by the Turkmen side, Rustemova noted.

Let us remind that this year, on the initiative of Turkmenistan, together with the Republic of Tajikistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran, the nomination “Traditions of making cradles and performing lullabies” has already been prepared for inclusion in the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
