The Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC3), held in Avaza from August 5 to 8, 2025, drew attention from international media outlets, as Turkmenistan’s state media reported on Sunday.
EU Reporter noted that Turkmenistan’s selection reflects its strategic role in developing transport corridors and advancing international cooperation.
Kazinform and Xinhua highlighted the importance of the documents adopted in Avaza for infrastructure modernization, trade facilitation, and strengthening climate resilience. Anadolu Agency described the forum as a step toward unlocking the economic potential of landlocked nations.
Media outlets Mir and AzVision.az linked the success of the conference to Turkmenistan’s policy of neutrality, while News Central Asia quoted UN Secretary-General António Guterres on the importance of economic diversification and digital infrastructure development.
Of the 32 landlocked developing countries, 16 are in Africa, 10 in Asia, 4 in Europe, and 2 in Latin America, according to the UN. These countries are home to more than 500 million people, accounting for approximately 7% of the world’s population.
