Turkmenistan, Mauritania Discuss Prospects for Bilateral Cooperation

Turkmenistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Ambassador Wepa Hajiyev, held a meeting with representatives of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania on July 30, 2025. The sides reviewed the current state of Turkmen-Mauritanian cooperation and exchanged views on its future development, particularly in the context of collaboration within international organizations.

Both parties expressed mutual interest in expanding cooperation in sustainable development and enhancing transport and logistics connectivity. They also emphasized the importance of strengthening regional and interregional ties, according to the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the United Nations Office in Geneva.

Special attention was given to the upcoming Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC3), which is scheduled to take place from August 5 to 8 in Avaza, Turkmenistan.

Mauritania, located in West Africa, shares borders with Morocco, Algeria, Mali, and Senegal, and has access to the Atlantic Ocean. Its capital is Nouakchott. The country’s economy is primarily based on mineral extraction, fishing, and agriculture.
