Annual trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Russia exceeds $1.6 billion, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Hojamyrat Geldimyradov announced during an official reception in Ashgabat marking Russia Day.
The event, organized by the Russian Embassy, was attended by diplomats, government officials, and representatives of the cultural community, according to Turkmenistan’s official media.
Speaking on behalf of the Turkmen government, Geldimyradov noted that since gaining independence, bilateral trade has exceeded $60 billion. In the first six months of 2025 alone, trade volume increased by 58%.
He also highlighted promising areas for cooperation, including energy, transportation, and the digital economy. According to Geldimyradov, education, science, and culture are also important and successful areas of joint effort.
Welcoming guests, Russian Ambassador to Turkmenistan Ivan Volynkin said Russia Day symbolizes national unity and continuity across generations. He emphasized that the partnership between the two countries is built on strong traditions of friendship and shared history.
“Political and economic ties are developing alongside cultural and humanitarian cooperation,” Volynkin stated, adding that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is expected to visit Turkmenistan officially at the end of June.
The evening concluded with a cultural program featuring Russian folk songs and dances, as well as a Turkmen-language song titled “Forward, Only Forward, Native Land — Turkmenistan!” written by the National Leader of the Turkmen People, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
