The Embassy of Turkmenistan in Georgia hosted a weeklong football tournament from May 27 to June 2 to celebrate the International Year of Peace and Trust and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality.
According to the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Georgia, the tournament featured youth football teams and local clubs, including Sportuni from the Georgian University of Sport and Kartli of the Vake Football Centre. FC Kartli, established in 1991, is known for producing many prominent Georgian athletes.
Before the start of the tournament, Turkmenistan’s Ambassador to Georgia, Dovletmyrat Seyitmammedov, noted that the event aimed to promote international peace and friendship through sports, reflecting the country's commitment to fostering a healthy lifestyle and strengthening global sports cooperation.
The ambassador also highlighted the meeting held in March between Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze in Ashgabat, during which both sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding on sports cooperation. He noted that the tournament was a direct example of that agreement in action.
During the seven-day tournament, the young footballers demonstrated a spirited, emotional, and competitive game. At the end of the event, participants were awarded certificates.
