Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan have agreed to explore the possibility of launching direct commercial flights between cities in the two countries, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said following talks with Turkmenistan's President Serdar Berdimuhamedov in Astana, the Kazakh president’s press office reported.
Tokayev noted that bilateral trade has consistently exceeded $500 million and that both sides have agreed on measures to increase trade to $1 billion. Plans include establishing joint trade houses and implementing a work plan to boost mutual trade.
He added that cargo transportation between the two countries reached 1.5 million tons in the first ten months of 2025.
The presidents also discussed plans to build a railway line connecting the region with South Asia through Afghanistan.
Following the talks, the presidents signed a series of agreements to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.
