Turkmen Foreign Ministry Discusses Caspian Sea Water Level Decline

The 11th meeting of the High-Level Working Group on Caspian Sea Affairs was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, where issues related to the declining water levels of the Caspian Sea were discussed. The meeting also proposed the creation of a dedicated working group of the Caspian littoral states, according to the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan.

Delegations from the five Caspian littoral countries took part in the session. The Turkmen delegation was led by M.G. Atajanov, the Azerbaijani delegation by S.A. Sharifov, the Iranian delegation by K.G. Abadi, the Kazakh delegation by Z.A. Amanzholova, and the Russian delegation by N.N. Udovichenko.

During the meeting, the sides discussed methods for determining the baseline in the Caspian Sea. They also reviewed the progress of cooperation in the region and addressed preparations for the next meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Caspian states.

The 11th meeting of the High-Level Working Group on Caspian Sea Affairs began on September 15 and is currently ongoing.

Earlier, at a conference held on August 12 in the city of Turkmenbashi to mark International Caspian Sea Day, it was announced that the Caspian Summit in 2026 will be hosted by Iran.
