Turkmenistan, EU Plan High-Level Meetings

Turkmenistan’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium, Sapar Palvanov, held talks with Peteris Ustubs, Director for International Partnerships of the European Commission for Asia and the Pacific. During the meeting, the diplomats discussed prospects for organizing high-level meetings between the leadership of Turkmenistan and European institutions, emphasizing the importance of maintaining direct dialogue. The Embassy of Turkmenistan in Belgium reported on Tuesday.

The talks covered a broad range of issues related to upcoming cooperation between the European Union and the Central Asian countries, including bilateral formats of EU–Turkmenistan engagement.

In particular, the sides reviewed preparations for the upcoming ministerial meeting in Luxembourg, scheduled for October 20, 2025. The forum’s agenda will include regional connectivity, trade and economic relations, energy partnerships, and digital cooperation.

The Luxembourg meeting will be held in an expanded format, with the participation not only of the EU and Central Asian states, but also neighboring countries such as Turkey, Armenia, Georgia, and Azerbaijan. A similar inclusive approach was successfully implemented during the 20th EU–Central Asia Ministerial Meeting held earlier in Ashgabat.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides noted that Turkmenistan is increasingly positioning itself as a platform for interregional and international initiatives, consistently demonstrating its commitment to hosting effective high-level dialogue and practical cooperation events.
