Turkmenistan–Italy Bilateral Trade Reaches €33 Million

Bilateral trade between Turkmenistan and Italy reached approximately €33 million from January to April 2025. Italian exports totaled €32 million in the first four months of the year, while imports of Turkmen products amounted to around €1.5 million, according to Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

Energy remains a key sector in bilateral trade, with Italian imports primarily focused on petroleum products. At the same time, the range of traded goods continues to expand, including industrial equipment, transportation technologies, chemicals, and solutions for the textile, medical, and pharmaceutical industries.

Among the major Italian companies operating in Turkmenistan is ENI, which has maintained a presence in the country since 2008. In 2014, ENI extended its Production Sharing Agreement in Turkmenistan until 2032. Another notable company, RINA, is involved in biodiversity protection initiatives, the development of port infrastructure, and technical consulting for the construction of a section of the TAPI gas pipeline.

Since 2013, the Italian Embassy in Ashgabat has supported businesses through trade forums, official visits, and institutional exchanges, contributing to the strengthening of political and economic ties between the two countries.

Diplomatic relations between Italy and Turkmenistan were established on June 9, 1992. The Italian Embassy in Ashgabat opened on December 2, 2013, while Turkmenistan inaugurated its embassy in Italy in early 2017.
