Third UN Conference on LLDCs Concludes in Avaza

The Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC3) concluded in Avaza, bringing together senior government officials, representatives of international organizations, the private sector and civil society, Turkmenistan’s state media reported on Friday.

The final plenary session summarized the outcomes of forums and roundtable discussions focused on trade facilitation, modernization of transport and energy infrastructure, investment attraction, innovation, and climate change adaptation. Participants emphasized that the recommendations developed during the event could serve as a driver for inclusive and sustainable development for LLDCs.

Key outcomes of the meeting included the Avaza Political Declaration and the Avaza Program of Action for 2024–2034. These documents outline concrete measures for trade development, digital transformation, modernization of transport corridors, enhanced climate resilience, and greater integration of LLDCs into the global economy.

UN Under-Secretary-General Rabab Fatima thanked Turkmenistan for the high level of organization and stressed that the conference opens new opportunities for international cooperation. Turkmenistan’s foreign minister noted that the documents adopted in Avaza will serve as a roadmap for the next decade.

The conference’s closure marked the start of a new phase in implementing the program of action at both national and global levels. As host, Turkmenistan strengthened its position in global affairs, reaffirming its role as a neutral platform for international dialogue.
