A total of 4,640 foreign nationals have transited through Turkmenistan from Iran, Deputy Chairman of Turkmenistan’s Cabinet of Ministers and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov said Friday during an online Cabinet meeting, according to Turkmenistan’s state news agency.
The travelers included citizens from more than 50 countries across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and the Americas.
Meredov noted that Turkmenistan, as the only Central Asian country bordering the Middle East, has taken humanitarian measures in response to the current political situation in neighboring regions.
Turkmenistan implemented a range of measures, including receiving international flights at Ashgabat International Airport, maintaining 24/7 operations at checkpoints along the Turkmen-Iranian border, and ensuring close coordination among relevant agencies.
The meeting also emphasized that these humanitarian efforts are conducted on a systematic basis in cooperation with foreign governments and international organizations. Regular meetings with ambassadors, heads of diplomatic missions, and representatives of international institutions were organized in line with presidential instructions.
Other domestic matters were also reviewed during the Cabinet meeting.
