During the Revival of the new era of stable state, the life of our people under the leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov is filled with joyful events every day, increasing the pride of our comrades in our dear Motherland, our Heroic Friend and our Comrade Heroic Serdar. One of such events was the publication of the 4th edition of the Red Book of Turkmenistan in the year "Ocean of Wisdom Magtymguly Pyragy" on June 5, the World Day of Environmental Protection.
The Red Book is of great importance in protecting the environment in the country, it is aimed at protecting and enriching the unique nature of Turkmenistan, scientific study of natural resources and ensuring its ecological well-being, and it is a valuable scientific work on the flora and fauna of the country.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov sent his congratulations to the readers, authors and publishers of the Red Book of Turkmenistan on the occasion of the publication of the 4th edition of the book. As noted in the conference, love for nature is deeply rooted in the character, lifestyle, traditions and culture of the Turkmen people. Our ancestors created subtle ways and principles of living in harmony with our beautiful nature, which is the source of life. These ancient humanitarian traditions of our people have been firmly embedded in life for centuries and have gained great importance. Such relations aimed at keeping the environment clean are taking on a new tone and are being developed today, combined with the fundamental measures to find reliable solutions to the global problems of mankind.
In this regard, it should be noted that, under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Turkey, large-scale program activities are being implemented to preserve and enrich the beautiful nature of the country, rich flora and fauna.
The Red Book of Turkmenistan is an important indicator of the quantitative variability of the country's biodiversity, accurately reflecting the state of flora and fauna. As an officially accepted document, it provides a sample of information on the number, distribution, status and protection measures of rare, declining and endangered species of wild plants and animals of the country.
The Red Book is developed in accordance with national legislation and international conventions and agreements. Species of plants and animals included in it are under state protection. To date, the Red Book of Turkmenistan has been published three times - in 1985, 1999 and 2011.
After the publication of the 3rd edition of the Red Book, the environmental legislation of Turkmenistan was updated, taking into account international standards, new laws were developed, changes and additions were made to the existing ones.
To prepare the 4th edition of the Red Book of Turkmenistan, an interagency group consisting of sub-groups on zoology and botany was formed. Scientists and experts from the Ministries of Agriculture, Environmental Protection, Academy of Sciences and other relevant ministries and departmental administrations of Turkmenistan were included in this group. Botanists and zoologists were involved in the preparation of the Red Book, in addition to the members of the interagency team.
In the preparation of the 4th edition of the Red Book of Turkmenistan, the information of the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), as well as the previously published Red Book of the country, was used. In the new edition, the criteria of the TGHB Red List, published for the first time in 1994, were taken as the basis for determining the national status of the species. Special attention has been given to species that are critically endangered - critically endangered, endangered and threatened with extinction.
The book describes the species, its extent, importance in gene pool conservation, distribution, places of occurrence, number and its tendency to change, main limiting factors, animal reproduction, plant breeding, conservation measures, recommendations for research and references. information on other sources has been provided. Also included are color photographs of the species and a map of its occurrences.
The publication of the 4th edition of the Red Book of Turkmenistan became another testimony of the commitment of the state to the preservation and enrichment of the flora and fauna of the country.
