Turkmenistan’s Foreign Ministry Concerned About U.S. Visa Restrictions

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan expressed serious concern Tuesday over media reports about the United States potentially imposing partial visa restrictions on Turkmen citizens.

In an official statement, the ministry said the U.S. decision causes "extreme misunderstanding" and does not align with the spirit of bilateral cooperation between Ashgabat and Washington.

"Turkmenistan, possessing internationally recognized neutrality status, strictly adheres to all migration norms and regulations," the ministry said. According to officials, the country actively implements U.N. conventions and is considered a leader in handling refugees and stateless persons.

The ministry emphasized that such measures are typically applied to citizens violating host country laws. Turkmen citizens traveling abroad, including to the U.S., reportedly demonstrate a high level of compliance with laws.

"We view this decision as hasty and not reflective of the positive dynamics in Turkmen-American relations, including cooperation on migration policy," the statement concluded.
