Memory Alley Opened in Ashgabat Honoring 80 Years of Victory

A ceremony was held in the capital of Turkmenistan to inaugurate Memory Alley, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The commemorative event took place on the grounds of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Turkmenistan, serving as a symbol of deep respect for the Soviet people's heroism in the fight against fascism, as reported by Turkmenistan’s official media on Tuesday.

The opening ceremony was led by Ivan Volynkin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Turkmenistan. In his address, he emphasized the importance of preserving historical memory and passing it on to future generations.

The ceremony was attended by the Russian ambassador, embassy staff, and representatives of foreign diplomatic missions accredited in Turkmenistan, highlighting the international significance of remembering the Victory.

After the official part of the event, the ambassador and members of the diplomatic corps proceeded to the Memory Alley, where a symbolic planting of ten trees took place. The participants also honored the fallen heroes with a moment of silence and laid wreaths at the base of the alley.

According to report, the Memory Alley initiative aligns with a large-scale international campaign launched in 2020, under which 27 million trees are planted annually around the world in memory of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War. To date, a total of 130 million saplings have been planted.

The new Memory Alley, located on the grounds of the Russian Embassy in Ashgabat, has become another important site commemorating the heroic deeds of the Soviet people and the importance of global peace.
