Bilateral consultations between representatives of Turkmenistan and Iran on Caspian Sea issues were held on April 7–8, 2025, at the Caspian Sea Institute of Turkmenistan in Ashgabat, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The Turkmen delegation was headed by Director of the Caspian Sea Institute Myrat Atajanov, while the Iranian side was led by Alireza Jahangiri, Assistant to the Iranian Foreign Minister for Caspian Affairs.

The consultations focused on the delimitation of the maritime boundary, fishing zones, and the division of the Caspian Sea’s water area. The two sides also exchanged views on bilateral and multilateral cooperation, including environmental protection in the region.

The Caspian Sea is the world’s largest enclosed inland body of water, situated between Europe and Asia. It is a landlocked sea not connected to the world’s oceans and spans approximately 371,000 square kilometers. The sea borders five countries: Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Iran, and Azerbaijan.
