A two-day workshop on assessing climate risks and adaptation priorities in the Murgab River basin was held in Mary.
The seminar was attended by employees of structural divisions of the ministries of agriculture, environmental protection, defense, scientists of the State Committee for Water Management of the country and its departmental Turkmen State Research, Production and Design Water Management Institute “Turkmensuvylymtaslama”, velayat khyakimlik.
According to “Turkmenistan: Golden Age”, the meeting was organized within the framework of the Regional Program of the German Society for International Cooperation entitled “Climate Risk Management in Central Asia”, which in Turkmenistan is carried out under the coordination leadership of the Ministry of Environmental Protection on the basis of a bilateral memorandum of understanding .
As noted, Murghab is a small water stream that is not capable of feeding the entire oasis, and for the basin, the water needs are compensated by the Karakum River.
The state’s focus on solving all water supply problems is effective and efficient, as is the readiness of sectors to cooperate. Government support mobilizes the population to use water more economically and initiate proposals to conserve the resource in the public and private sectors.
During the seminar, participants shared their accumulated practical experience and acquired new knowledge, the source notes.
