International Workshop on Digitalization of the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor Held

From May 11 to 14, 2026, Astana, the Republic of Kazakhstan, hosted an international training workshop on digitalizing multimodal data and document exchange along the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor and aligning it with UN standards for the member states of the UN Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA). Organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), the Permanent Secretariat of TRACECA, and the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the event gathered representatives from regional states and international organizations. A Turkmen delegation, comprising specialists from the Foreign Economic Relations and Logistics Department of the State Service and the Commercial Accounting and Freight Forwarding Department of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport, also attended the workshop.

During the workshop, the participants comprehensively discussed the digitalization of the regional transport and logistics system, data exchange among various modes of transport based on the "single window" principle, and the creation of a unified data model. In particular, the significance of the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor in regional development was highlighted. The attendees reviewed the experiences of representatives from Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Georgia, who reported that coordinated efforts had successfully reduced cargo transit times from 30 days to 13–17 days, and that the unified CIM/SMGS document is being effectively utilized to standardize freight documentation across railway and maritime authorities.

Speaking at a special session of the event, the Turkmen delegation provided detailed information on the implementation of national programs and concepts adopted to develop the digital system in Turkmenistan, as well as the strategic and logistical role of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport within the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor. Furthermore, it was highly emphasized that the Turkmen side remains fully prepared to continue its active participation in projects and practical initiatives led by UNECE and TRACECA aimed at digitalizing regional multimodal data and document exchange, and to further deepen regional cooperation.
