In the lead-up to one of the region’s most prestigious energy forums, the Organizing Committee of the 30th International Conference and Exhibition "Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan – 2025" (OGT 2025) has announced that China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) will serve as the Platinum Sponsor of the anniversary event to be held from October 22 to 24, 2025, in Ashgabat.
CNPC began its operations in Turkmenistan in 2002, investing in the oil and gas sector and providing engineering and technical services.
In 2007, CNPC and the State Concern “Türkmengaz” signed a Production Sharing Agreement (PSA) for the “Bagtyýarlyk” contractual territory, along with a long-term contract for the supply of natural gas. That same year, the company began industrial development of fields on the right bank of the Amu Darya River.
The “Bagtyýarlyk” contractual territory includes the Samandepe, Altyn Asyr, and other fields, which have become a key source of Turkmen gas supplies through the Turkmenistan–China pipeline.
According to media reports, CNPC’s total investment in the project has exceeded USD 9.4 billion.
In 2024–2025, CNPC continues to actively contribute to the development of Turkmenistan’s gas industry, focusing on modernizing production facilities — including the expansion of the GPP-2 gas processing plant in the “Bagtyýarlyk” contractual area, repair and maintenance of compressor rotors, and optimization of production processes to improve reliability and throughput of the facilities.
These initiatives reflect CNPC’s commitment to supporting the modernization of Turkmenistan’s energy infrastructure and strengthening its technological foundation.
