January–June: Turkmenistan-Russia Trade Surpasses $1.2 Billion

A Russian delegation, led by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Grigorenko, visited Turkmenistan to discuss economic digitalization and expanding trade and economic cooperation.

During the three-day visit, talks were held with Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan M. Chakyyev and Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan N. Atagulyyev. The parties discussed the creation of joint IT platforms for government services and information security issues. They also discussed the possibility of Russian companies participating in the construction of data centers and the development of broadband access in remote areas of the country.

Dmitry Grigorenko met with the Rector of the Institute of Telecommunications and Informatics of Turkmenistan, held an open class for students and a press conference for Russian media. They exchanged views on the training of young specialists and academic exchange.

The delegation visited several exhibition venues, including the international exhibition ‘Healthcare, Education and Sports’, the National Carpet Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts.

Following the visit, a protocol of mutual understanding on digital transformation was signed and an exchange of experience between the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications, and Mass Media of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Communications of Turkmenistan was planned. Trade turnover between the two countries in the first half of 2025 exceeded $1.2 billion. New direct supplies of Russian satellite communications equipment and joint research projects in telecommunications are planned.

An agreement was also reached to implement joint projects in the digital sector. This opens new opportunities for Russian IT companies in the Turkmen market.
