President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov has signed a decree granting amnesty to 225 convicted individuals in honor of the country’s 34th Independence Day anniversary.
The decision, made during a regular meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on Thursday, continues a longstanding tradition aimed at supporting those who have sincerely repented for their offenses, according to official Turkmen media.
The report on the preparation of the amnesty was presented by Secretary of the State Security Council and Chairman of the Commission on Citizenship and Pardons Begench Gundogdyev.
President Berdimuhamedov instructed law enforcement agencies to ensure the prompt release of the pardoned individuals and their safe return to their families.
Extending his wishes, the head of state called on the pardoned citizens to work honestly, serve their homeland with sincerity, and lead productive lives benefiting from the fruits of their labor.
The Cabinet meeting also addressed a number of other matters related to state affairs, for which appropriate decisions were made.
