Turkmen President Invites Portugal, Switzerland Leaders to Ashgabat Forum

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with President of Portugal Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and President of Switzerland Karin Keller-Sutter on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York on Wednesday. During the meetings, the Turkmen leader extended invitations to both heads of state to attend an international forum scheduled for December 12 in Ashgabat.

The event will be dedicated to the “International Year of Peace and Trust” and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s status of permanent neutrality, according to official Turkmen media.

During his meeting with the Portuguese president, the sides discussed prospects for expanding cooperation and supporting joint initiatives within the framework of the United Nations.

Talks with the Swiss president focused on enhancing trade and investment ties, cooperation in the financial sector, pharmaceuticals, green energy, cultural and humanitarian projects.

Both sides emphasized the friendly nature of bilateral relations and expressed confidence in the continued strengthening of partnership based on mutual respect and neutrality.

As part of his working visit to New York, President Berdimuhamedov also held talks with Crown Prince of the State of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah, President of Austria Alexander Van der Bellen, and King Mswati III of Eswatini.
