President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov proposed holding a Caspian Environmental Forum in 2026 during his address at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday in New York. The forum would serve as a platform for discussing regional environmental and climate-related issues, according to the UN press service.

Berdimuhamedov emphasized that Turkmenistan will continue to advance the Caspian Environmental Initiative, originally proposed by Ashgabat at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly. He added that the country aligns its international actions with the principles of the UN Charter.

"The UN is the only international organization with universal legitimacy that guarantees peace, development, security, and the stability of the global architecture," the president stated.

The Caspian Sea, the world's largest enclosed inland body of water with an area of approximately 371,000 square kilometers, borders Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Iran, and Azerbaijan. It plays a key role in regional ecology and sustainable development.
