President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov proposed the establishment of a regional center to combat desertification for Central Asian countries during the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday in New York, according to the UN official press service.
Creating the center, the president noted, would help consolidate regional capacity, strengthen environmental cooperation, and make a significant contribution toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
This center will also represent an important step toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, in particular Goal 13 (Climate Action) and Goal 15 (Life on Land).
President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov also proposed holding the Caspian Environmental Forum in 2026, which would serve as a platform for discussing regional environmental and climate-related issues.
