President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on Monday in New York.
According to the UN press service, the secretary-general expressed his gratitude to the Turkmen leader for hosting the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, held from August 3 to 8 in Avaza.
The two sides discussed Turkmenistan's initiatives aimed at promoting international peace and trust. Guterres welcomed Ashgabat’s support for the "UN 80" initiative and the Pact for the Future.
President Berdimuhamedov arrived in New York on Monday for a working visit to participate in the 80th session of the UN General Assembly. The General Debate of the Assembly's milestone 80th session is scheduled to open on September 23. A total of 97 heads of state are expected to address the gathering.
