In a congratulatory message on the occasion of Turkmenistan President Serdar Berdimuhamedov’s birthday, President of the Republic of Korea, Lee Jae-myung, expressed hope for a personal meeting with the Turkmen leader in 2026 during the "Korea–Central Asia" summit, which will be held in South Korea. The meeting would provide an opportunity for more in-depth discussions on the development of bilateral relations. This was reported by Turkmenistan's official media on Monday.
The South Korean leader referred to their recent phone conversation and emphasized that since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992, Turkmenistan and South Korea have consistently strengthened their partnership. Since 2008, the cooperation between the two countries has reached the level of mutually beneficial strategic interaction.
Yoon Suk-yeol highlighted Turkmenistan’s role as a key partner for South Korea in Central Asia and expressed confidence that joint projects involving South Korean companies will further deepen economic ties.
In conclusion, President Yoon conveyed warm congratulations to Turkmenistan’s National Leader and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
Earlier, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov invited President Yoon Suk-yeol to participate in an international forum to be held in Ashgabat on December 12, marking the International Year of Peace and Trust and the 30th anniversary of the country’s neutrality.
