Turkmenistan’s Ambassador to Georgia, Dovlet Seyitmammedov, met on September 11 with Thea Jugheli, Rector of Sokhumi State University, to discuss expanding cooperation between higher education institutions.
During the meeting, the parties considered the signing of a cooperation agreement between International University of Oil and Gas named after Yagshygeldi Kakayev and Sokhumi State University, as well as the possibility of organizing bilateral visits at the rector level.
Special attention was given to initiatives aimed at strengthening ties between universities and academic communities, the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Georgia reported on Thursday.

At the start of the meeting, Ambassador Seyitmammedov congratulated Rector Jugheli on her recent appointment and expressed confidence in the university’s continued success under her leadership. He also emphasized the importance of ongoing cooperation between the Embassy of Turkmenistan and Sokhumi State University in the fields of education, science, and culture.
Rector Thea Jugheli expressed readiness to actively support joint academic and cultural initiatives. She noted that expanding inter-university collaboration would further strengthen ties between Turkmenistan and Georgia.
In 2023, International University of Oil and Gas named after Yagshygeldi Kakayev signed a cooperation agreement with China University of Petroleum. Under the agreement, teacher training programs and specialized Chinese language courses are currently being conducted.
